First established in 1882, the St. Ann Polo Club & Equestrian Centre moved to its current location at Drax Hall in 1905. Many of the Annual Jamaica Polo Association’s tournament’s are hosted there as it is the central point for the players based in Kingston and Montego Bay. In 1995 Yvonne Melville formalized the Equestrian Center installing international Jumping and Dressage arenas, and a cross country training course at the Club. When she retired, the Club was dormant for some time, but was actually awaiting its full revival in 2020. What started out with one child wanting pony rides before polo, who then brought a friend … now has 2 instructors and over 20 students, largely riding “repurposed polo ponies” that are now “all purpose ponies”! The Club held several gymkhanas and Training Shows in 2020 – 2021, and hosted the final leg of the EFJ’s Jumping League and the CEA’s Regional Jumping Challenge in 2022. This picturesque location places it in the middle of the North Coast Tourism Corridor and the other Equestrian Centers around the Island.
